Community at ES

Employability Solutions aims to transform young lives and build resilient communities. As part of our ten-year strategy our vision under our “community heading” is that of safe, strong, and well-connected communities.

We believe it takes a village to raise a child and it takes a child to make to the village vibrant. Young people at Employability Solutions participate in education designed to benefit them personally and professionally and have a tangible benefit and positive social impact on the wider community.

We focus on “what’s strong, not what’s wrong” and take an asset-based approach to building safer, stronger more well-connected communities; so instead of focusing on deficits in communities and what’s missing, we empower people to identify and harness the assets within, building strong communities from the inside out. We are convinced everyone has got something to offer and everyone can do something to help.

Outside of our education programmes, we are constantly striving for ways to bring people together and create a sense of togetherness. We people feel a sense of belonging and connection healing, repair, wellness, and opportunities for growth can happen.

It can be done in many ways, but some ways we have tried include organising events, starting community projects, or simply being kind and helpful to others.

Much of the foundation on which Employability Solutions was built, is the work of Cormac Russell. A focus on what’s strong, not what’s wrong and our Nan’s relentlessness in taking care of everyone in the community. It’s why our door is always open, and the kettle is always on.

After training with Cormac in the early days, we started a movement that led to 5 of our students becoming the first Young Community Builders in the country.

2 of those wonderful humans are still employed with us today, passionate about helping the next generation of young people.

For 12 years, we have delighted in watching our young people grow and flourish with the support of a dedicated team of staff, volunteers, families, and the wider community.

Asset-Based Community Development

Asset-based community development (ABCD) is a methodology for the sustainable development of communities based on their strengths and potential.

Our Mission

We recognise the contributions young people can make to our communities. Therefore, we aim to support young people in overcoming the barriers they face in regards to education, employment and further development.

Our Vision

To enable young people to take an active role in developing and achieving their potential. By introducing alternative ways of learning, they can go on to apprenticeships, employment, or further education.

Our Values

If we wouldn’t like the young people in own our families to be supported in any particular way, then we wouldn’t support our clients in that way. In short, we view the young people we work with as family.
