Terry’s Story

Terry's Story

Terry's Background

Terry was referred to our Youth Hub through Belle Vale Job Centre in January 2026 after requesting more support with finding work. Terry was completing a photography course in college, 3 days a week and wanted to find part-time work around this.

First Steps

We started by reviewing Terry's goals and outlining some actions. Terry had a CV that we spent some time updating to reflect his skills and experience gained from volunteer work.

Whilst on our Programme

Terry joined the Youth Hub in January 2026 after he was referred through the Belle Vale job centre, as he requested more support with finding work.

Terry is currently in college 3 days per week, completing a photography course and volunteers his spare time to take professional photos for the city of Liverpool football club.

Terry was motivated to find work within a hospitality setting, so we set some actions for him to work towards. We spent some time updating his CV to reflect the skills and experiences he has gained from volunteering. We supported Terry to apply for roles through the disability confidence scheme as he was not aware he could be supported through this.

One of the roles we applied for was a food server at LFC Stadium - we completed an application and wrote a personal statement highlighting Terry's passion and drive.

Terry was invited in for an interview and was successful!

Next Steps

Terry successfully completed his first shift and continues to enjoy his hospitality role.

Josh’s Story

Josh's Story

Josh's Background

Josh attended college to complete a Business Level 3 course, but was unsure about what he wanted to do for work. After some convincing, he decided to visit our Youth Hub and see what support was available.

First Steps

'I wasn’t actually sure about attending the Youth Hub at first, as I wasn’t aware of what they offered in terms of support, but Tracey was very helpful in convincing me to give it a try.

When I first attended the hub, I was at a crossroads about where I wanted to go with my career. Since then, after multiple work experience placements, I realised that a career in the Civil Service is the best option for me.'

Whilst on our Programme

'From my first appointment with the Youth Hub, I was confident in being able to find jobs that I liked, but the main barrier to me was being able to pass an interview. My social skills were relatively poor as a result of COVID and neurodiversity.

With my current experiences and the courses I’ve attended, I’ve been able to pass the interview to become a work coach, and I’ve seen my people skills improve greatly as a result of this.

I think the main factor for me believing I could take this role was when I took part in the Movement to Work course. The staff were very helpful in helping me understand the recruitment process with the Civil Service and how demanding it is. They were able to break it down so I could understand it better, and allowed us to observe different parts of the Duke Street site to be able to realise that a career in the Department for Work and Pensions was a good option.

Suzi at the Youth Hub allowed me to see all the options for courses and work experience opportunities that were on offer, more specifically the steps to work at Strawberry Field. This helped me massively with my soft skills that I was able to take into several work experiences with them, one at their site and one at the airport.

When I told the Youth Hub I had the interview here, Suzi was very good at giving me tips for the interview process, as this was the main challenge that I faced with getting a job. The tips Suzi gave me I was able to take into the interview with me, and they helped me be able to answer what they had to ask me sufficiently.

Overall, my daily mood has definitely increased; I feel a lot more motivated now, as being in a constant work search can be draining at times. I wake up with things to work towards, where I didn’t have that before, but my overall stress levels have lowered as well, as my mind is at ease when it’s occupied.'

Next Steps

'I definitely feel more secure now, as I’ve heard so many success stories about careers in the civil service. I think it’s a valuable career that I’ve been able to get. The paycheck felt amazing, but the main thing for me is financial security and being able to give back to my parents.

Since I first attended the Youth Hub, I've come to realise just how good Disability Confidence is. I wasn't sure about the idea at first, but given how much it has helped me throughout the application process for this role, I strongly recommend a Disability Confident employer to those who feel getting a job will be difficult due to employment barriers.

The help that I've received since I've been in this role and while being offered this role has made me believe that my future is in very safe hands.'

Decan’s Story

Decan's Story

Decan's Background

Decan joined the Youth Hub in March 2025. He had struggled with his confidence and had just left university. He needed some guidance and also some work experience, as he had never had a job. Decan had a keen interest in art and design.

First Steps

When Decan joined the Youth Hub, his confidence was low, and he needed help finding work experience and gaining some employment skills. We were able to identify that he had good artistic skills, and at Netherly Youth Hub, they could do with someone like him.

Whilst on our Programme

Decan joined our Youth Hub in March 2025 with limited confidence and no work experience. Having just finished university, he was eager to build his skills and begin his career.

We began by arranging work experience through the Netherley Youth Club Initiative, where he volunteered once his DBS was approved. The staff were really impressed with his effort and creativity!

Next, Decan completed the King’s Trust Confidence Course, helping him overcome barriers and boost his self-esteem.

Together, we updated his CV, practised interview skills, and explored job opportunities. Decan then completed his SIA training and successfully earned his licence - a huge achievement!

Although he didn’t get the first SIA job he applied for, he stayed motivated. A few weeks later, he interviewed with Nando’s… and got the job!

He’s now working there full-time and thriving. We are so proud of his journey.

Next Steps

Decan’s growth and determination are shining examples of what can happen when you keep pushing forward!

He has now finished his journey with Youth Hub, but if he does need any support, he can always return.

A hospitality employability programme became available with the LFC Foundation. Ali was motivated to complete the course, so we referred him over.

Caroline’s Story

Caroline Story

Caroline's Background

Huge shoutout to Caroline, who has stayed motivated since joining us at the Youth Hub!

After graduating with a degree in Ancient History, Caroline knew exactly what she wanted: to build a career she loved while gaining experience in the museum sector. But like many recent graduates, she struggled getting into the career she wanted after university.

Whilst on our Programme

She started with museum applications for permanent and voluntary work; this is ongoing. She landed a temporary job in a warehouse that gave her a wage during the winter months.

The temp role ended, and instead of waiting for the perfect role to appear in the museum, she took initiative and enrolled in the Aviation Academy.

We’ve been working together on video interview techniques, assessment centre structures, hints and tips and in-depth applications for museum applications.

Throughout the temporary role and the career shift, her positivity hasn't wavered once.

Next Steps

Caroline is currently awaiting news on a permanent role, and we couldn't be prouder of the effort she’s put in.

Charles’ Story

Charles Story

Charles' Background

Charles joined the Youth Hub in September 2025, eager to find a hands-on role. Although he had little experience and didn’t yet hold his CSCS card, he was determined to explore new opportunities and build his confidence in the world of work.

First Steps

Charles needed to explore suitable work opportunities that matched his interests and skills. To support him, he was invited to attend the Future Focus event and various local job fairs. He was also sent links to apply for apprenticeships and encouraged to research relevant courses to build his qualifications and experience.

Whilst on our Programme

Charles joined the Youth Hub in September 2025 with the goal of finding a hands-on role, despite having little experience and not yet holding his CSCS card. He was motivated to explore what opportunities were available, so he attended the Future Focus event, local job fairs, and researched apprenticeships and training courses.

Throughout the programme, Charles demonstrated real engagement; he never hesitated to take part in employment events and was consistently seeking opportunities. He even attended the MPCT open day, showing curiosity and commitment, while also preparing for interviews, including one with MITE. Although he was unsuccessful in the MITE interview, Charles persevered. He completed his CSCS course and is now waiting to take his test.

His persistence paid off: after interviewing with a scaffolding company, he was offered and has recently started full-time work.

Charles has shown great determination every step of the way, setting an excellent example for others considering their own next career move.

Next Steps

Charles is going to take his CSCS test.

Fergal’s Story

Fergal's Story

Fergal's Background

Fergal was self-referred to The Reach in Speke, seeking support to improve his employment prospects and access services, such as Universal Credit and training. At the time, Fergal was unaware of the support available to him, including how to find a job or access training opportunities. He struggled with some challenging personal circumstances, including a disability.

First Steps

The first step involved establishing a trusting relationship with Fergal and understanding his needs. An action plan was created, focusing on setting achievable goals to build his confidence and employability skills, recognising the importance of practical experience. We invited Fergal to attend the Hatch pre-employment course, an 8-week programme designed to prepare individuals for entering the workforce. The course provided training, support, and valuable work experience, helping Fergal to develop essential skills.

Whilst on our Programme

  • Developed a personalised action plan with clear goals.

  • Facilitated attendance at the Hatch pre-employment course.

  • Supported Fergal in understanding how to access universal credit and other services.

  • Provided ongoing encouragement and guidance throughout the course.

Following this, Fergal secured a full-time position at KFC, marking a significant milestone in his journey toward independence and employment.

Next Steps

  • Continue to support Fergal in maintaining his employment.
  • Explore further training opportunities to enhance his skills.

  • Provide ongoing assistance with any benefits or support he may need.

  • Monitor his progress and adjust support as necessary to ensure long-term success.
