Olivia’s Story

Olivia’s Background

Olivia joined Youth Hub after finishing her degree in Childhood Youth Studies and Social Policy at Liverpool Hope University. Olivia had retail experience working for an agency and voluntary experience within Alder Hey. Olivia’s barrier was that she did not have the recent relevant experience to walk into a job in the field that her degree was in.

First Steps

Olivia attended the Job Club and the Youth Hub, and worked with our partners to update and tailor her CV to the job roles she was applying for.

Whilst on our programme

Olivia discussed how she would like to go into child psychiatry. There was a kickstart role that became available in a local alternative educational setting as a support staff for young people who are vulnerable or at a disadvantage. Due to this being a kickstart and initially, only for six months, Olivia decided not to go for the role. Instead, she applied for agency work within schools for a similar role.

Keeping in touch with Olivia we had a phone call where she expressed her concerns about whether the agency role was for her or not. After the call, a face-to-face meeting was scheduled to discuss in detail the opportunities and obstacles of both roles. Due to Olivia’s long-term goal in child psychiatry, we discussed how to work with vulnerable experiences that she needs for any future roles. After some interview preparation, Olivia had her interview and was offered 32.5 hours as support staff at Employability Solutions.

Next Steps

Olivia will continue to develop her skill set and gain experience whilst at Employability Solutions, with the hope to continue her employment in a full-time capacity post the 6 months kickstart date.
